Headaches
Headaches are a frequent presentation to BOC; commonly felt as pain in the head, often at the base of the skull or forehead. On occasions pain may also be experienced around or in the eyes or ears.
There are a number of types of headache presentations, the most common being tension or cervicogenic headaches.
Cervicogenic headaches are related to cervical (neck) dysfunction. These headaches often present as a dull nagging pain at the base of the skull and sometimes radiate over one half of the head and may produce pain behind the eye.
Tension headaches are often felt as a band around the forehead or temporal region. They often have a stress or emotional causative component.
Osteopathic treatment can provide a lot of relief for these types of headaches by treating dysfunction found in the cervical spine and associated muscle tension in the head and neck. Acupuncture has also been found to be effective in the treatment of these headaches.
